Overall, the novel had an OUTSTANDING variety of developed characters, along with an elaborate plot that kept me on my toes. The novel contained a perfect touch of romance that was unlike any others that usually make me want to cringe. No, this was the romance that made me say "AWW" to myself. The scenes were beautifully detailed and I love how the author explored the depths of the character's mind. The author illustrates so many internal conflicts going on in the main character's head and the way she sounds more sure of herself at the end just proves the progression of the growth of all the characters. The thrilling, descriptive scenes made me feel like I was actually experiencing it for myself. The action aspect of the book maintained my interest troughout the entire novel and I would definitely recommend this book to people who are interested in an action packed, romance filled, quality book. My favorite part of the story, or rather the scene that I had no idea was coming, was the scene where a boy named Peter attacks one of his fellow peers JUST because he ranked higher in the initiation games they had to participate in. Edward (the boy who ranked higher) was thrown onto the ground during his peacful sleep and brutally stabbed in the eye, the Dauntless leaders finally had to send him home along with another initiate that refused to be there without him. This foreshadowed the scene that came very soon after of Peter threatening Tris by holding her over the chasm filled with roaring water that crashed against the rocks. This scene also showed the evil motives and jealousy hidden behind Peter's sweet face. My least favorite part of the novel was when Tris's mother sacrificed herself to save her daughter. This scene shocked me so much, I couldn't even cry. The mind controlled Dauntless subjects were being forced to consider friends as enemies and ultimately, the mother was shot by a group of Dauntless in an alley while Tris escaped to go rescue the rest of her family. This novel had the power to make me cry, feel the feelings the character was feeling and create friends and enemies through the experiences of the protagonist. After finishing the novel, I would strongly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a good read.
